We’ve all been there.  You feel like you are the only one who has a deaf child with additional needs.  Well, you are not alone.  Welcome to the DeafDisabledParentProject.com – a source of information and inspiration for parents of deaf children with additional needs.

What This Website is About

My oldest daughter is deaf and has cerebral palsy.  When my daughter was very young, my wife and I did a lot of research and talked to other parents and others about deaf education and children with additional needs.  The knowledge that we gained helped us become better advocates for our daughter.  As a result, our daughter has learned to advocate very well for herself and is prepared to step out and to reach for her dreams.

My wife and I are frequently asked to share our knowledge with other parents of special needs children.  At a recent speaking engagement, we discovered that many parents  didn’t know where to go for basic information about caring for and educating deaf children with addition needs.  Many simply felt lost.  In an effort to help, I contribute articles on this topic in publications such as the Huffington Post and the Good Men Project.  I also wrote a book about my experience in raising a special needs child, yet I felt the need to do more.  I started this website so that parents of deaf children with additional needs had a place to turn for encouragement and advice.  I also didn’t want to do it alone.  I regularly invite other parents of deaf children with additional needs to share their experiences and lessons as well.

The goal is to give parents, and others who are involved in raising deaf children with additional needs, a place where they can ask honest questions and receive honest answers.  I also want you to gain practical advice that you can immediately use to help your child.  We know your time is very valuable.  Our goal is to candidly discuss issues that we have personally faced as parents of deaf children with additional needs.  We are not perfect and have made our share of mistakes but maybe some of the challenges that we have faced can help you.  Let us know if you have a question or a topic that you would like to know more about.  Remember, we are here to serve you.
